A Little About Myself

Who I Am. Why I Travel. How I Travel.

Hi! I’m Brittany. I was 21 years old when I took my first international trip. In 2016, I spent a month backpacking through Europe with my college boyfriend. At first I was hesitant to travel to a foreign country, nervous about trying something so new and out of place. After weeks of my boyfriend trying to convince me to go, I gave in. And I’m so glad that I did because after that trip, the travel bug bit me and I’ve been trying to scratch that bite ever since.

I grew up in a small town about an hour south of Philadelphia. There wasn’t much to do in town growing up, but I always had the feeling that I belonged somewhere bigger. I had always dreamed of moving to New York City. I settled for moving to Philadelphia to attend college to study English and Creative Writing.

Why I Travel

It makes me sad to know that the world is too big and life is too short to be able to see everything this amazing planet has to offer. So, I try to travel somewhere new every year to experience a new culture, see a new part of the world, try new food, and meet new people.

I believe that traveling around the world gives people new perspectives on life and an opportunity to adopt certain customs and beliefs from different cultures to make their lives better at home. Every time I take a trip, I always come home with a new perspective or habit that helps me to grow into the person that I would like to be.

What I Do When I Travel

Everyone travels differently. I have always traveled out of a 40 liter blue backpack and don’t stay in one city for more than five days. When planning a trip, I always start with the idea that I will stay in one place for a while, but then I realize how close I am to other cities or countries (especially in Europe) and my adventurous side gets the best of me. So, when traveling to different cities all the time, a backpack is easy to pack up and go.

While in a new city, my favorite thing to do is wander aimlessly around the city. My favorite thing about this is turning a street corner and just being amazed by what’s standing there. I also love visiting historical sites, churches/temples, cemeteries, and taking photos of everything and anything that catches my eye.

Of course, food is a huge part of why I travel. Whether it’s street food or a gourmet meal, the food will always be better while abroad than at home. (Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to have a slice of pizza or a burrito when I get back to the US after a trip.) Food is one universal thing that brings people together, so I think it’s important to indulge while traveling see what tastes and flavors bring the people of that country around one table.

Why I Started a Travel Blog

Before and after booking a trip, half of the tabs open on my computer are looking for things to do in that destination and travel tips. So, I wanted to combine my love for writing and traveling to create a travel blog that would not only document my travel experiences, but also help others who plan to visit the same locations.
