Hostel Review: Downtown Boutique Hostel – Zadar, Croatia

Downtown Boutique Hostel in Zadar, Croatia may be one of the most comfortable and modern hostels I’ve stayed in while traveling Europe.

Location

Whenever I book my accommodations, I always try to put myself in the most convenient location possible, somewhere close to whichever bus or train station I’m coming into and the old town or place with the most attractions. Downtown Boutique Hostel is located right in the Old Town of Zadar on a quiet side street. It’s just a few hundred meters from Saint Anastasia’s Cathedral and the main street with a number of stores and cafes on it. From the bus station, it’s just a quick 25-minute walk.

Extremely Comfortable

What I absolutely loved about Downtown Boutique Hostel is that they went out of their way to make the place comfortable. It felt more like a hotel than a hostel! The room I stayed in, a 6-bed mixed dorm, was extremely spacious. There was no way the room would have felt cramped if it was full.

Each bed had its own curtain that you could pull closed so you can have privacy while you slept. There was also a lamp, outlet, and USB outlet on the wall of each bed, making it very convenient to charge your phone at night without worrying it might go missing. Not to mention, the mattress were softer than clouds.

As with most hostels, each bed had a locker to go with it. Unlike other hostels, these lockers were very large so you could put all of your luggage in them and came with their own key. (Great for those travelers who forget a combination lock!) They even had hangers in there for your clothes and jackets.

Social Setting

Since Downtown Boutique Hostel strives to have a more “hotel” feel than a hostel, the common area was quite small, although it was very comfortable. With a lending library, television, fridge and microwave, you could easily hang out with new friends. However, it may not be often that you find someone hanging out down there.

Attached to the hostel is a restaurant and bar that offers a 15% discount on lunch and dinner to guests and an $8 breakfast in the morning. This makes for another great place to grab a drink and meet people in the hostel.

The Staff

The staff was absolutely incredible! Everyone was so kind and welcoming to me when I first arrived and offered plenty of suggestions as to where to eat, what to see, and local tips most tourists miss.

Overall Score 10/10

I would definitely stay in this hostel again, without a doubt! It was so clean, so comfortable, and there is nothing bad that I could say about it. Even the water pressure in the showers was incredible.

If you have the chance to go to Zadar, book your stay at Downtown Boutique Hostel. They offer dorms of 4 to 8 beds as well as private rooms.
